Rodney Maddock

Rodney Maddock is Chief Economist for the West of Melbourne Economic Development Alliance (WOMEDA), and a Vice Chancellor’s Fellow at Victoria University. WOMEDA is a western group focussed on increasing employment in the West, and particularly in the precincts of Footscray, Werribee and Sunshine. This is the main current focus of his work. Rod is an economist who has spent much of the last two decades working on strategy in the finance sector: as head of group strategy for the Commonwealth Bank Group, and as director of Monash University’s Australian Centre for Financial Studies. His other earlier roles include as a director of CEDA, as chief economist for the Business Council of Australia, as head of economic policy in the Victorian Cabinet Office, and as Professor of Economics at La Trobe University. He has published books on Australian economic development and on infrastructure reform, as well as many articles, papers and opinion pieces.
